Ballast Point Lighthouse, 1908. Keeper James Sweet and his wife Celia, with their daughter Verla and son Alton. Keeper Sweet had just completed the doghouse for their family dog. There were no sandy beaches at Ballast Point, just stones, which gave the Sweets’ dog sore feet. Keeper Sweet fashioned a pair of leather boots to protect the dog’s feet.
