This photo shows Paul Christian’s uncle Bill Jacobs, who also lived on the Gurnet. This picture was taken in 1924. You can see behind him that both of the twin lighthouses established in 1843 were still standing, but the northeast tower was removed later that same year. Jacobs was a local lobsterman who fished until he was 69. “I worked with him the last three years of his life,” Paul Christian says, “and it was an experience I will never forget.” Photo courtesy of Paul Christian.
