William Spear Jr., pointing to the tower, tells a local newspaper reporter in 1952 about his father’s days as a lighthouse keeper there. Moments later they climbed the tower to watch Coast Guard personnel remove the lens from the tower as it was deactivated. A few years later the government tore the tower down.
