Built in 1910, the Elbow of Cross Ledge Lighthouse once stood in Delaware Bay near Downe, New Jersey. Although the lighthouse was damaged by a hurricane in 1951, it was a collision by a freighter in 1953 that did the lighthouse in. What was left was demolished. Today, an erector-style tower, with a modern optic at the top, sits on the base of the former architecturally distinct lighthouse, now lost in the pages of time.
