Photo from the past
Pictured here is Lighthouse Keeper Joseph Muise who served as a keeper for 25 years at Maine lighthouses.
It was his brother in law, a lighthouse keeper, who originally recommended the Lighthouse Service to him.
Married to Annie Seavey, they raised six children during his keeper years. His first station was Moose Peak and from there he went to Mt. Desert and then to Baker Island. It was at Baker Island Light where his oldest son drowned. After that he went back to Moose Peak Light and was later transferred to Burnt Island Light in Boothbay Harbor where he served from 1926 to 1951 when he retired.
Our thanks to Ann L. Muise, who lived at Burnt Island Light for 15 years, for sending us this photograph which will now be displayed in the Museum of Lighthouse History in Wells, Maine.
