Speaking before an American Lighthouse Foundation dinner crowd of about 300 guests, Kim Andrews, COO of Harbour Lights, surprised the audience with an oversized check donated to the general restoration of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.

“In May 2000, we unveiled our limited edition 6,500 piece replica of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse with the explicit purpose that with each purchase, Harbour Lights would donate $5 toward the restoration and preservation of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. Today marks the culmination of a dream we’ve had to provide increased financial backing in support of these unique American landmarks,” Kim Andrews remarked. Then she reached behind her on the stage and picked up an oversized check. As the audience gave its oohs and ahs, Kim continued by saying, “I’m pleased to present to the American Lighthouse Foundation this check, which is real, in the amount of $32,500. The audience immediately applauded as the surprised Tim Harrison accepted the check on behalf of the American Lighthouse Foundation.

Harrison later said the look of surprise on his face was real. “We knew that they would be giving a large donation toward the restoration of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, but quite frankly, we though that it was months away.” Harrison went on to say, that what was even more puzzling was he never saw Kim sneak the oversized check into the banquet room.

Harrison told the elated audience of lighthouse supporters that the check couldn’t have come at a better time, since this was the 100th birthday of the lighthouse, and would be presented to the Friends of Rockland Breakwater, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, at the 100th birthday party for the lighthouse. He went on to say, “A check for this large of an amount will go a long way to the dedicated volunteers who are working so hard to restore the historic lighthouse. We can’t thank Harbour Lights enough. They are a company that puts back into the community that they work with so closely.”

Harbour Lights was founded in 1990 as a family business and is the world’s leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of lighthouse replicas and other maritime collectibles. Almost 20,000 people belong to their Collectors Society and this donation would not be possible if it were not for the dedication and loyalty of their customers and collectors. All of the Harbour Lights collectibles can be viewed on line at www.LighthouseDepot.com and of course are available through the Lighthouse Depot Catalog and Retail Store by calling 1-800-758-1444.
