In the archives of the American Lighthouse Foundation there is a tiny file on W. H. Law, but there is no information really known about him. There is a photo and the page from an unidentified magazine about a story he wrote called, “Deeds of Valor by heroes and heroines of the Great Water World,” Unfortunately, the entire article is not with the old story.

The picture in the files from an old news-wire service identifies him as W. H. “Grandpa” Law, and was taken at his retirement after he spent a lifetime on the high seas as a minister who preached the gospel to lighthouse keepers and crews of lighthouse tenders. The newspaper clipping simply said he was known as the “Sky Pilot to Light Housemen” and he would be greatly missed by every lighthouse keeper in the United States.

However, the magazine article stated he was known to sailors as the “Sky Pilot of the Great Lakes.”

We’d like to know more about him, but can’t seem to find much out. We are hoping that some of our readers may be able to help us out with a biography of W. H. Law, “Sky Pilot to the lighthouse keepers.”

Let’s hear from you, write Editor, Lighthouse Digest, P.O. Box 1690, Wells, Maine 04090 or e-mail Timh@lhdigest.com.
