A Doubling wedding
Maine’s Doubling Point Lighthouse was the backdrop for the wedding of its historian and webmaster, Margaret E. Spencer, to Kolin R. Kepler, a native of Alaska. Wow, talk about from one coast to the other!
Margaret has had a love affair with Doubling Point Lighthouse since grade school. She has made models of the lighthouse and keeper’s house, studied its history, written about it and created a web site for the Friends of Doubling Point, and she always dreamed about getting married at a lighthouse. Majoring in engineering in college might even provide her with the background to someday build her own lighthouse home.
While attending college in Alaska, she met Kolin at Denali National Park, overlooking Mt. McKinley, where they both held summer jobs. Her courtship included nighttime flights over spectacular glaciers, (Kolin is a pilot), and hiking in the Maine and Alaska outback.
Margaret got her wedding at her favorite beacon, Doubling Point Light in Arrowsic, Maine. With both families in attendance, someone was looking out for the two of them on their wedding day. While most of the state was covered in a blanket of rain, the ceremony at the lighthouse remained dry, except perhaps for the tears in the parent’s eyes.
Margaret’s focus is now turned to family medicine, and after her years of residency training are completed, the couple expects that their lives and careers will always include Maine, Alaska, and the continued preservation of Doubling Point Lighthouse.
