Shriners hold “Ken Black Night”

Ken Black, known my many as “Mr. Lighthouse,” was recently honored by his fellow Shriners for serving as the secretary of the local Shrine Club for an amazing 30 years.

Black was presented with a Trophy Cup, a plaque of appreciation, a framed certificate of appreciation, a letter from M. Burton Olin, Imperial Potenate, Shrine of North America, and two separate donations were made in his name to his favorite charity.

Ken has an illustrious career of volunteerism. He was named Shriner of the Year twice, Chamber Person of the Year, holds a 52 year Masonic Pin, and he recently retired as Secretary of the Salvation Army after 25 years. He is also an active member of the American Lighthouse Foundation and serves as its Honorary Chairman.

Ken is the founder and curator of the Shore Village Museum in Rockland, Maine, which houses the largest collection of lighthouse artifacts and lighthouse machinery of any museum in the United States. The museum will soon be moved to the new Gateway Center in Rockland, Maine, where it will undergo a change of name to Maine’s Lighthouse Museum. Ken Black is also credited with being one of the key players in starting the lighthouse preservation movement in the United States.
