Historic Inns of Rockland offer the perfect package for those in search of the quintessential Maine experience

What could be more characteristically Maine than a weekend featuring lighthouses and lobster in Rockland, Maine, the Lobster Capital of the Universe? With more than 14 easy-to-access lighthouses located in Knox County, this is the perfect place to celebrate lighthouses while enjoying homarus americanus, the famous Maine lobster. Add lodging at Historic Inns of Rockland, and you have all the ingredients of the perfect Midcoast Maine experience.

In 2001, the governor of Maine officially proclaimed the third week in June as the Maine Lighthouse Week. In honor of this week, the Historic Inns of Rockland will spend the month of June offering the Lobsters and Lighthouses package, celebrating the lure and the lore of lobsters and lighthouses. Self guided lighthouse tours, passes to the new Lighthouse Museum located in Rockland’s Gateway Center slated to open in the spring of 2005, and of course, plenty of Rockland’s king of the sea – lobster – all make for an ideal June getaway, before the summer season begins.

The Historic Inns of Rockland Lobsters and Lighthouses package is offered June 1-30, 2005 and includes:

- Overnight accommodations at one of the six Historic Inns of Rockland.

- Breakfast for two.

- $50 voucher for a lobster dinner for two at one of Rockland’s intimate restaurants.

- Passes to the new Maine Lighthouse Museum with historic artifacts, displays and one of the largest collections of lighthouse materials in the country.

- Maine Lighthouse Book offering detailed photos, information and maps of Maine’s historic lighthouses.

- A directory of local lighthouses, most of which are a half-hour or less from Rockland.

All this starts at $150--$300 per couple or single, with private or shared baths available. Additional nights may be added, and off-season rates continue through mid-June. With so much to do in the area, two or three night stays are encouraged.

To book your Lobsters and Lighthouses package June 1-30, 2005, simply visit www.HistoricInnsOfRockland.com. From there, choose among six lovely inns and B&Bs, most within walking distance of Rockland’s historic downtown district and the ocean. Each offers a distinctly unique getaway and amenities to suit any traveler’s tastes. Be sure to mention the Lighthouses and Lobsters package when booking your June getaway.
