Tower Talk

By Timothy Harrison

As we celebrate the new year, we leave another year of modern lighthouse history behind us.

Last year was a busy year around the world with many lighthouse restoration projects getting started, while other restoration projects entered their second, third, fourth, fifth and even their sixth year of restoration. And of course, thankfully, some lighthouse restoration projects were completed and even some old lighthouse history that was thought to be lost was uncovered and saved. Unfortunately, last year, we also saw more of our historic lighthouses destroyed

and lost forever.

While we are doing our utmost effort to save, document and report our modern lighthouse history, as well as yesterday's history for future generations, we still need more help from our readers.

We urge you to send us photographs of today's lighthouse restoration projects, newspaper clippings, memories of your lighthouse visits, old lighthouse postcards you may stumble across and historical material that you uncover, so we can be the central clearing house in saving today's modern lighthouse history for future generations. Don't assume that someone else will do it — it doesn't happen that way.

Only you can help us keep the light of history shining, by saving today's lighthouse history, for tomorrow's generations.
