Lost but still famous

This original old news wire photograph recently came into our possession. If you thought this old run-down looking lighthouse looks familiar, you’re right. Today, it’s one of the most photographed and recognizable lighthouses in the world. The keeper’s house shown next to the lighthouse was used by the military during World War II. According to Rip Irwin’s book the keeper’s house was “no longer fit for human habitation” after the war. It was demolished in the mid 1950’s and is now lost in the page of time.

Oh, by the way, in case you didn’t know, the lighthouse is Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse in Nova Scotia, Canada. The lighthouse now has its own post office and is one of Nova Scotia’s most popular tourist attractions.
