Back in the 40’s and 50’s lighthouses were used quite often in promoting services and products. This Coca Cola ad from 1949 features Maine’s Portland Head Light. The fact that there is a gas station attendant in uniform pumping gas that close to Portland Head Light is what’s called artistic license. However, one has to long for the “good old days” when uniformed attendants, with a smile on their face, pumped your gas, cleaned your windows, and checked your oil and air. And while you waited, you could sip on a ice-cold Coke that cost only 5 cents.
