 USCG Mackinaw Icebreaker (Red Hull)

Click to view larger image : 63k USCG Mackinaw Icebreaker (Red Hull)

The United States Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw (WAGB 83) was commissioned on December 20, 1944. The strength of the hull insured the icebreaker's mission to clear shipping lanes of the Great Lakes. The powerful Mackinaw is capable of moving through ice up to 3 feet thick. The bow was designed to ride up on the ice and crush it with its weight. Known as "The Great White Mother" because of a magnificent white hull, Mackinaw was the last U. S. Coast Guard cutter to conform to the new regulation of a red hull in 1998. The "Big Mac" was finally decommissioned on June 9, 2006 after 62 years of faithful service. Limited to 4,000 pieces. 5" x 11"
