Publication of this book represents part of the observance of that milestone. The Friends of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse wanted to tell the story of these 100 years: why the breakwater and lighthouse were built, the construction process, the people and procedures involved. But more importantly, our organization wants to tell the story of the many keepers who served at the lighthouse, who risked their lives to save others and who enabled the lighthouse to guard without fail the approaches to Rockland Harbor.
