The Primary Mission of the American Lighthouse Foundation:

1. To act as an agency to encourage the historic preservation and restoration of lighthouse, lightship and lifesaving station artifacts and documents throughout America.
2. To foster and support local lighthouse initiatives and organizations through public information and advisory services.
3. To improve public awareness and appreciation of and access to all of America's lighthouses.

The Foundation operates with volunteers only and has no paid employees.

The American Lighthouse Foundation has been directly responsible for such projects as the restoration of the keepers quarters and outbuildings at Race Point Lighthouse on Cape Cod, Massachusetts; restoration of the grave-sites of Abbie Burgess and the Grant family of famous lighthouse keepers; having the Governors of the New England States declare August as Lighthouse Month in New England; and assisted the Friends of Plum Island Light, Massachusetts in obtaining a lease from the Coast Guard for the Plum Island Light. The Foundation has given financial assisting the Crisp Point Historical Society for the saving and restoration of Crisp Point Lighthouse in Michigan; the Friends of Doubling Point Lighthouse for the restoration of Doubling Point Light in Maine; the Grand Island East Channel Light in Michigan; Minot's Lightkeepers' Memorial; Lightship Sailors' Memorial; and many other projects.

The American Lighthouse Foundation also is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of Long Point Light and Wood End Lights in Cape Cod Massachusetts; Newport Harbor (Goat Island) Light, RI; Portsmouth Harbor Light in NH; and Rockland Breakwater and Little River Lights in Maine. It is also raising money to save the endangered Avery Point Lighthouse in Connecticut and other endangered lighthouses.

Time is running out for many lighthouses. If money is not raised now, many of our historic lighthouses may soon be gone. We need your financial support to save, restore and maintain lighthouses and their artifacts before they are lost forever.
