The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, the only one of its type in the nation, is in deplorable condition. ceilings are falling in, stair steps are missing, wood is rotted, plaster is hanging from the walls and ceilings and debris strewn throughout the station. This monument, a world-wide symbol of the City of Rockland, must be restored to be saved for future generations to enjoy.
This will be a difficult lighthouse to renovate. It is estimated that it will cost $250,000 to restore the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.
The New England Lighthouse Foundation has no paid employees. Ninety percent of all funds raised for the restoration of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse will go directly to restoration.
There will be no taxpayer money used to restore the lightouse. All funds for restoration must come from private donations. Restoration cannot start until money has ben raised.
