Notes:
The Cape St. George Lighthouse was already endangered by beach erosion when Hurricane Opal undermined its foundation in 1995. Funds raised by the Cape St. George Lighthouse Society were combined with state and federal funds to begin a repair and stabilization project in 1999. The lighthouse was stabilized to some degree, but in early 2000 it was reported that the tower has started to lean again. Contributions to help save the lighthouse can be sent to Save the Light, P.O. Box 915, Apalachicola, FL 32329-0915.
