This lighthouse became the property of the State of Michigan in the 1940s, then was transferred to Peninsula Township. It is managed today as a park. The tower is not open to the public but the grounds are accessible. The lighthouse serves as the residence for the park's caretaker. The station is on the 45th parallel, halfway between the equator and the North Pole.
