In 1998 the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce started a campaign to relight Great Captain Island Light. The building needs much restoration. A two-year fundraising effort has raised $250,000 for restoration. Work is expected to start in the winter of 2002-2003. There is a resident caretaker.
