Cape Nelson is known as a great spot for whale watching. This is still an active lighthouse; the beacon is maintained by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

Directions:
The lighthouse is is a ten-minute drive from the center of Portland. Kendall Airlines runs daily service between Melbourne and Portland, and rail service runs daily between Melbourne and Warrnambool. This connects with a bus service from Warrnambool to Portland. A bus also runs from Melbourne to Portland.
