Notes:
After the light was automated in 1963 the Coast Guard destroyed the keeper's house and all the buildings except the tower. The island is now managed as a bird refuge by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Coast Guard still owns and maintains the lighthouse.

Characteristic and Range: Six seconds white alternating with six seconds darkness.

Description of Tower: White cylindrical brick tower with black cast iron lantern.

Optics: 1855: Fifth order Fresnel lens; now 250 mm, solar powered.

Fog Signal: ?-1869: Fog bell and striking mechanism in tower; now automated horn with two blasts every 30 seconds.

Current Use: Active aid to navigation.

Open To Public? No.

Directions:
From US Route 1 in Bath, take ME 209 south to Phippsburg and follow the signs to Popham Beach State Park (about 14 miles). Historic Fort Popham is two miles further south on ME 209. There is a fairly distant view of Pond Island Light and Seguin Island Light from Popham Beach. There is a small day use fee at Popham Beach State Park. Closer views are possible from a number of lighthouse cruises offered in summer by the Maine Maritime Museum. Call (207) 443-1316 for the schedule and reservations. Pond Island Light can also be seen from the Kennebec River-Bath cruise offered by Cap'n Fish's Whale Watch and Scenic Nature Cruises in Boothbay Harbor.
