This was was the fifth modern lighthouse to be built in Scotland. John Brown, keeper in 1937, sighted a massive sea creature. He said that "a great object rose up out of the water, anything up to twenty to thirty feet and at an angle of 45 degrees. It was round shaped and there appeared to be a head on it."

Characteristic and Range: Three white flashes every 30 seconds, visible for 25 nautical miles.
