Notes:
The light station is managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The Coast Guard built four three-bedroom houses next to the lighthouse in 1960. These houses are used today for the Pigeon Point Hostel. There is an annual anniversary lighting of the first order Fresnel lens each November.

Four 1960 keeper's dwellings (one story wood bungalow), wood frame fog signal building, cistern, oil house, two garages, storage building, 1872 carpenter shop. Original four-plex dwelling was demolished in 1960.

In the past, state park docents have conducted tours to the top of the tower year round every Saturday and Sunday, and also Fridays from May through October. In December 2001, a section of the cornice on the exterior of the lighthouse fell off. The lighthouse will remain closed until the structure can be evaluated for safety At this writing in September 2003, it is estimated that a complete restoration will cost several million dollars, and there is no estimate of when the tower will be reopened. For now, guided half-hour history walks of the lighthouse grounds are available 10am - 4pm Fridays through Sundays, except on rainy days.
