The station is now owned by California State Parks and managed by the Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association. The lighthouse and other buildings have been under restoration since 1996. The lantern and lens have been restored and the Fresnel lens has been put back in service. The Coast Guard still maintains the light.

The lighthouse is open every day in summer from 11 to 4. The nature preserve is open until 1/2 hour after sunset. Guided walks in the preserve are available at 11 a.m. every Sunday, May through September. Access to the tower and other buildings may be limited depending on the stage of restoration.
Directions:
From the south: North on Highway 1, cross the Russian Gulch Bridge (the second bridge north of Mendocino). Watch for left turn lane for Russian Gulf State Park at mile 52.95. Turn left across Highway 1, then turn right (north) on Point Cabrillo Drive. Continue north about 1.25 miles. Look for a group of small cabins and house trailers on the left side of the road. The brown sign in front says "Ocean View, Point Cabrillo." Continue past the trailer park for another tenth of a mile to the entrance to Lighthouse Road. There is a a mailbox on top of a wooden fence post on the left, and a row of ivy-covered trees bordering the road. From the south: About 6 miles south of Fort Bragg on Highway 1, just past Caspas and across the long Caspar Creek Bridge, turn right on Point Cabrillo Drive at mile 54.65. Wind down and around Caspar Beach, then back up to the headlands beyond Doyle Creek. About 1.7 miles along Point Cabrillo Drive, one mile from Caspar Beach, look for an abandoned house surrounded by tall cypress on the right (west) side of the road. Park before you actually see Lighthouse Road. If you come to the Ocean View Point Cabrillo Trailer Park you have gone to far. TO THE LIGHTHOUSE: The light station is about a 1/2 mile walk from the entry gate along a paved but fairly steep road. Park on Point Cabrillo Drive or in the mowed area just inside the entry gate when the gate is open. Do not block the gate.
