Notes:
This lighthouse replaced the earlier Point Loma Light in 1891 because the old light was so high (422 feet) that it was frequently hidden by fog.

Optics: 1891: Third order Fresnel lens (removed in 2002).

Fog Signal: Horn at base of tower.

Current Use: Active aid to navigation, Coast Guard housing.

Open To Public? No.

Directions:
Can be viewed from the parking area at Cabrillo National Monument. From I-5 South or I-8 west: Exit at Rosecrans St., right on Canon St., left on Catalina Blvd. From I-5 North: Exit and left on Hawthorne St., right on N. Harbor Drive, left on Rosencrans St., right on Canon St., left on Catalina Blvd. Public transportation: San Diego Transit route 26.
