The University of New Orleans has allowed the building of a hotel on this site, the Hilton Garden Inn Lakefront. The university stipulated that the developer's plans must include restoration of the lighthouse. The hotel's swimming pool will be located next to the lighthouse.

The lighthouse (and future hotel and conference center) is at Ponchartrain Beach off Lakeshore Drive in Milneburg. NOTE: The building immediately east of the lighthouse is a federal facility. Visitors are permitted to photograph the lighthouse but must not point their cameras toward the federal facility.
