In this photo from the 1960’s, radio personality Bob Kennedy, historian Edward Rowe Snow, and Coast Guard Officer Ken Black are seen visiting Nix’s Mate Island in Boston Harbor, where bodies of executed pirates were once strung up to warn other pirates away from the harbor. The marker at Nix’s Mate is a navigational aid but not a lighthouse.
