Lucien E. Lajeunesse, an 83 year-old retiree from Moosup, Connecticut used 12,000, old fashion style cotton swab, wooden sticks to construct this lighthouse model which stands four feet tall.
This was no easy task. Each stick had to be individually cut to the proper desired length, the ends sanded, then inserted with snug fit and finally glued into place.
It took Lucien took weeks to build the frame and then six hours daily for six weeks to complete the lighthouse, which was then sprayed with polyurethane.
Lucien and his wife, shown here, donated the lighthouse model to the American Lighthouse Foundation. It is now on display at the Lighthouse Depot Lighthouse Museum in Wells, Maine.
