The New Year has arrived and for the Harbour Lights collector it promises to be a very eventful one. This year fans of Cape Florida lighthouse will get their wish with the introduction of one of South Florida's exquisite gems. Just south of Miami stands a brick lighthouse rising 95 feet above the sea. For the past 170 years this light has witnessed more than its share of American history. Also early this year look for several other introductions, Old Saybrook, CT., Execution Rock, NY., Lorain, OH., and Chicago Harbor, IL. All lighthouses above mentioned, Harbour Lights has decided to produce a limited edition size of 10,000 each.

East Coast collectors, this looks to be your year. Harbour Lights has announced their second Harbour Lights reunion will be coming East. Last year the inaugural Harbour Lights gathering was held in their hometown San Diego, CA. So, for those who were not able to attend here is your chance. The reunion will be held at the Weston Hotel in Providence, RI the weekend of October 2nd through the 4th. Collectors who enjoy getting together with other Harbour Lights collectors this is a wonderful opportunity to share your common interest with fellow lighthouse enthusiasts.

Harbour Lights has set up a format of registration for this event by telephone on Saturday, February 7th. Space will be limited. If you would like to attend I strongly recommend you contact the company for details as soon as possible.

Another point of interest is this year's exclusive reunion piece which will be available for a limited time to all society members. After it had been brought to the company's attention they have recognized that many collectors for financial or physical reasons are not able to attend such events. Harbour Lights will be designating a time frame for all society members to obtain this piece. This information should be coming out shortly. A secondary market note: a highlight for 1997 was Ocracoke, NC. We at the Lighthouse Trading Co. had received so many calls for this particular piece that when asking collectors why this was such a sought after collectible the response time and time again was always the same. They had overlooked this piece on the primary market (retail). Now they find to complete their Outer Banks lights they had to seek it out on the secondary market. This piece has been selling for three to four times its original cost of $62.00. Collectors visiting this region of the country will find it more than worth their while to take the ferry from Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. This island is most noted for being the resting place of Blackbeard the pirate.
