Tower Talk

Editor's Note

By Tim Harrison

Several issues ago, I wrote that from time to time, some lighthouse groups would write to us complaining that we didn't do enough to cover their events, projects, and historical stories about their lighthouse.

Well, we heard from a number of groups. Some of them emailed us with the link to their web site, some sent their newsletters, and some sent us their brochure. Many said everything we needed could be found on one of those. None had photos that could be used, and the photos on their web site had a resolution too low to use. Some sent photocopies of historical photos to go with a story. We cannot use a photocopy. We need a real photo duplicate made and mailed to us or scanned at actual size and emailed at 300 dpi (pixels) or better.

Most expected us to search their web site or find an event in their brochure, and take a story from

their newsletter.

As I've mentioned over and over, our goal is to search for lost lighthouse history and report stories that have never been told or published before, to a mass audience. Secondly, we want to promote as many lighthouse events, fundraisers, and restoration projects as possible. But we can't be expected to search web sites, take information from brochures, or be at every lighthouse event everywhere to take photos. We need your help to do that.

So, if you want your lighthouse promoted, a story on a lighthouse event published, or restoration photos published, please send us all the information along with high-quality photos. Please include captions for the photos.

While we can't publish everything that is sent to us, we can do our best to publish as much material as we receive. But send us the story along with photos and be sure to print captions neatly, so we can read them. You wouldn't believe how much material we get that we can't read!

Lighthouse Digest is your magazine. Lighthouse Digest is the lighthouse window to the world. So if you have a story to tell, send it to us, but be sure to do your homework. Check the facts, send clear quality photos, and include an email address or phone number where we can reach you.

We need your help to promote lighthouses, lighthouse events, lighthouse restoration projects, and lighthouse history to be preserved for future generations.
