Auto enthusiasts from all over the country converged on the grounds of Lighthouse Depot for the First Annual Antique and Classic Car Lighthouse Tour 97 this past July.
The 38 vehicles from the New Brunswick Antique and Classic Auto Club took a break from their Lighthouse Tour 97 to display their vintage and cars on the lawn and parking lot of the World's Largest Lighthouse Gift Store.
The idea of the tour was in part to promote Maine lighthouses to car enthusiasts and our Canadian friends to the north.
Club members visited lighthouses from as far north as Bass Harbor Light, south to Nubble Light in York. At each lighthouse the members had a photo taken with their car in the foreground.
To top off the week the group had a cookout at the top of Mt. Agamenticus a few miles from Lighthouse Depot where they had a great view of the ocean, distant lighthouses, mountain tops, and a great night time mountain top view of an electrical storm.
The evening cookout was topped off with some lighthouse door prizes and a contest for the most original lighthouse hat made from items purchased on the tour.
The lighthouse tour is now expected to be an annual event.
