Louis Henry Barbier, who was the last lighthouse keeper at Louisiana's Pass Manchac Lighthouse, and probably the oldest former lighthouse keeper in the United States, died at the age of 103.
In a 1996 interview, he recalled life living at a lighthouse, which he did for 30 years. He remembered two separate incidents where he nearly drowned, but all in all, he said, lighthouse living was good and it kept the family together as a close unit.
He is survived by two children, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
