Michigan's remote Crisp Point Lighthouse is shown ...

The joys of surprise were evident as Tim Harrison presented Nellie Ross of the Crisp Point Historical Society with a $5,000.00 check from the American Lighthouse Foundation at the Keepers Dinner at the recent Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival held in Alpena, Michigan.

"It was not that long ago that we called Crisp Point Lighthouse 'The Most Endangered Lighthouse in the United States,'" said Harrison. He went on to say that "Crisp Point Historical Society has literally performed miracles to save this lighthouse in a remote area with an extremely low population base to raise funds. We hope that this check for $5,000.00 will draw attention for others to also donate funds for this historic lighthouse and save it for, and into, the next millennium."

The American Lighthouse Foundation is a non-profit organization with no paid employees, that is dedicated to saving lighthouses, their history, and heritage. It raises money through donations, fund raising events and cruises, the MBNA Lighthouse Credit Card program, and sales of subscriptions to Yankee Magazine. For a membership application write to American Lighthouse Foundation, P.O. Box 889, Wells, Maine 04090.
