Has the Long Point Light (ON) Lake Erie been on your “wanted” list?

Just about every Great Lakes lighthouse enthusiast has wanted to visit the Canadian Long Point tower but access has been a problem. Now is your opportunity.

The big Harbour Princess excursion boat departs Port Dover, Ontario on Saturday, August 11, 2001 for a day cruise to Long Point Light. The excursion will cruise across Long Point Bay as naturalists present descriptions about the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve. Cruising along the shoreline you will see protected marshes, bird nesting areas, remnants of early settlements and the ‘cottages’ of the long Point Company, a private hunting club for the rich and famous since 1866. Long Point is surrounded by shipwrecks from the era when there wasn’t any lighthouse.

The great granddaughter of a Long Point lighthouse keeper will pass along tales of her grandfather’s experiences.

The 200 passenger, 100 foot Harbour Princess provides an enclosed dining room deck as well as an open observation deck. A continental breakfast and hot buffet luncheon is included for those who attend the daylong cruise.

A special bonus on this tour is a visit to the historic and famous Port Burwell Lighthouse and museum plus a visit to a Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue boat.

The total day will cost you only $98 (US). Deadline for reservations is June 30, 2001. Contact Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, c/o Henry Ford Estate, 4901 Evergreen Rd, Dearborn, MI 48128.
