The Port Washington Lighthouse, Wisconsin as it ...

The Port Washington Historical Society in Wisconsin is now raising funds to rebuild the lantern room of its lighthouse, which was removed in 1934.

The group has the blueprints, the desire and some hard working volunteers plus they have the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on board to re-fabricate the lantern room in Europe.

What they now need is money.

In 1934, when the lantern was removed, the bearing walls that supported the tower and the lantern room were removed. This can be rebuilt, largely with volunteer help. The roof needs to be replaced, to the tune of $15,000. The cream city brick façade, painted Coast Guard white, has to be cleaned and tuck-pointed, which will cost another $15,000.

The time line for this project is rushed because of conditions imposed in Luxembourg.

A miniature reproduction of a U.S. Lighthouse Service badge will be sent to everyone that sends $10.00 or more.

A donation of $100 will get your name on the permanent donors board and of course larger donations will get larger recognition.

We would urge our readers to help with this

cause. Donations can be sent to:
