Nowhere else in the world have as many lighthouse items been gathered under one roof... our own building with two spacious floors of giftwares. The American Lighthouse Foundation Museum of Lighthouse History Relocated and incorporated with the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland Maine. The American Lighthouse Foundation a non profit group dedicated to saving lighthouses. The museum has many rare artifacts on display from the old United States Lighthouse Service, a special section dedicated to the U.S. Coast Guard, lighthouse artifacts from lighthouse organizations of other countries and vintage items used in lighthouse advertising. Also on display are many framed vintage photos of Maine lighthouse keepers, and artifacts from the U.S. Life Saving Service and Steamboat Inspection Service. While most artifacts are owned by the American Lighthouse Foundation, some are on loan from the United States Coast Guard. Donations of artifacts are welcomed and encouraged. Artifacts can also be loaned to the museum. Items on display are identified with signage and indicate who donated or loaned them. Directions The Lighthouse Depot Retail store in Wells ME is Approx 1 1/2 hours north of Boston and 1/2 hour south of Portland, and 20 minutes north of the Kittery Outlet Malls. Take Wells/Sanford Exit 19 formerly exit 2 off the Maine Turnpike I-95 If you're coming from the South, that is Exit 19 formerly exit 2 after the Maine Turnpike tollbooths - don't confuse it with Exit 2 just past Kittery. Then take a left on Route 109 East left onto US Route 1 North. Lighthouse Depot® is approx 1 1/2 miles north of the Route 109 Junction. Southbound on US Route 1 from Kennebunk, Lighthouse Depot® is 1/2 mile beyond the Route 9 junction. Hours STORE HOURS January thru March 21st- Open 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Friday thru Monday. Closed Tues, Wed & Thurs. We will be open everyday 10am-4:30pm during February vacation week 2/18/07 - 2/24/07. March 22 - May - 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. We will be CLOSED for Easter Sunday.
