Vote for the West Quoddy Lighthouse Quarter

Your vote is needed

The Governor of the State of Maine has decided that the best way to decide on the design for the state's new federal 25 cent piece is to have the people vote on one of four different proposed designs.

Because of the popularity of lighthouses, two of the four proposed designs are lighthouses.

If lighthouse fans split their vote, it could easily cause both lighthouse designs to lose and a non-lighthouse design to win. For example, if 1000 people voted for Lighthouse Design 1 and 1000 people voted for Lighthouse Design 2 and if 1001 people voted for the Design 3 or 4, (which is not a lighthouse), Design 3 or 4 would win by one vote, even though 999 more people voted for a lighthouse. We do not want to see that happen.

We would encourage you to go on line and vote for Design 1, which we feel will best represent the State of Maine to the world. Lighthouse Design 1 features West Quoddy Head Light, which is the easternmost lighthouse located on the easternmost point of land of the continental United States. It is here where the first rays of the sun's light touch the mainland of the United States each and every day. This design also features a pine tree in honor of the state's slogan, 'The Pine Tree State.' The design is a composite of several designs of West Quoddy Head Light that we supported when the design competition was originally announced.

As of this date, no other state has a lighthouse on its state quarter. If Lighthouse Design 1 wins, it would make Maine the first state in the union to have a lighthouse on a quarter.
