Ken Black Honored by Harbour Lights

Harbour Lights caught Ken Black by total surprise at the recent American Lighthouse Foundation dinner meeting on Cape Cod when they presented him with their very own special “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

The award was presented to Ken, known in the lighthouse community as “Mr. Lighthouse,” by Nancy Younger, cofounder of Harbour Lights, a firm that makes award winning lighthouse collectibles.

Although Nancy said she is fortunate to be able to travel and speak about lighthouses to so many people around the nation as well as meeting so many wonderful lighthouse people this day was particularly special to her since their company wanted to honor Ken Black for his lifetime of dedication to saving lighthouse artifacts, particularly Fresnel lens and other types of lighting used at lighthouses, which might otherwise have been lost.

Nancy spoke about what a wonderful museum Ken had founded in Rockland, Maine and how valuable the legacy is that he created for future generations, a legacy that could never be replicated or duplicated is saving a part of history that will never exist again.

She then presented Ken with a gold plated replica of the famous Eddystone Lighthouse, which was affixed with a brass plaque. As Nancy read the inscription, which stated,

“Harbour Lights Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Ken Black, ‘Mr. Lighthouse’ for saving many of our nation’s lighthouse artifacts,” you could see the twinkle in Ken’s eyes, or was that a tear of delight and surprise?

Harbour Lights has always been a major supporter of lighthouse preservation causes and the company’s founders Bill and Nancy Younger and daughter Kim Andrews, president of the company, spend the greater part of each year traveling to and being part of numerous lighthouse events around the nation. The company has also been very generous in donating replicas for lighthouse events and supporting lighthouse preservation causes.

Ken Black is also the Honorary Chairman of the nonprofit American Lighthouse Foundation of Wells, Maine.
