The Maine Lighthouse Museum and Gateway Visitor Center opened Saturday June 25th.

The Maine Lighthouse Museum is the proud home of the largest collection of lighthouse lenses, and one of the most important landmark collections of lighthouse artifacts and Coast Guard memorabilia in the United States. The collection was formerly displayed at the Shore Village Museum until its closing in October, 2004.

This year marks the grand opening of the Gateway Visitor Center, location of the collection's new home, the Maine Lighthouse Museum, as well as the Rockland-Thomaston Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Lighthouse Depot gift store.

While the Maine Lighthouse Museum is still undergoing renovation a very substantial but partial portion of the collection will be on full-time display and is a must-see for anyone interested in lighthouses and American maritime history.

And don't miss your chance to become a Charter Member of this historic lighthouse museum - become a member of Friends of the Maine Lighthouse Museum today!

Mission Statement: The mission of the Maine Lighthouse Museum is to preserve, display and enhance the nation's most significant collection of lighthouse and lifesaving artifacts and lenses. The museum will present its collected works as part of the Gateway Visitor Center that celebrates the maritime, commercial, cultural and environmental heritage of Mid-coast Maine. The Maine Lighthouse Museum's exhibitions and programs will inspire and educate residents about the region's unique quality of life and our New England traditions.

The museum is open seven days a week, and is just off Main Street and Route 1.
